Done freehand, but with reference and measuring lines added in Photoshop to help achieve the right proportions.

This was an exercise in how to capture a likeness. I think I must have scrapped about 6 prior attempts. Once I got the likeness close, the painting went pretty quickly.

The colors are still a little wacky. But I think it’s time to move on to the next piece.

I lost count of the hours trying to get the likeness right. Maybe 8? Finally had to give up. It’s just not quite there. I wish I were a better artist so I could see how to fix it more easily.

Finished it off with a quick hack coloring job of only an hour or so.

I was a bit rusty after not painting for at least a month it feels like. It was hard to get back into the groove.

Another photoshop painting of Kim Possible. There are some issues with the proportions of her arms, but overall I think it came out ok. This one took about 6 hours over the course of a week. This exercise was inspired by recently reading Joe Chiodo’s book: “How to Draw and Paint Pin-ups”.

Here’s a painting I did in Photoshop of Kim Possible. Done in a few hours over the past week, mostly on Sunday. Trying an experiment with lost and found edges. I don’t think the shadowing on the lower legs is successful with the mostly white background. My lighting reference that gave me the idea to put the lower legs in shadow was a darker lighting situation.

 As usual, the more I look at it, the more I can find wrong with it. The biggest thing that bothers me at the moment is the lighting direction isn’t consistent.

My time is limited though, so I’m calling it good enough for now. More lessons learned for whatever my next painting is.

Another piece of Mistborn fan art. Vin again.

Finished this a while ago but forgot to post it here. I re-used an earlier piece for the background. In retrospect, her head ended up a little to big for her body. I guess that’s what practice like this is for–to get enough experience to avoid those sorts of problems in the future without having to think about it.
